Final goodbye to what I thought was a great company

I’ve been thinking awhile about whether or not I was gonna post something about my former employer. I keep replaying everything in my head about things that were said to me. So I’ve decided to go ahead and write one.

Before you read this whole thing, I am not a disgruntled employee, I am not pissed at my store. Yes, I am upset about the whole ordeal, but I’m not one of those employees that bad mouth a company because they were fired. A decision was made, I respect the decision, but I do not agree with it. I am not mad or pissed at Char or James, the 2 managers that are mentioned in this blog. They have a job to do, and I respect that.

If you read my blogs at all, you’ll know that I put in a notice at Applebee’s, a 3 week notice. My last day being on November 3rd, 2019. During this time, we did get a new GM, because our current GM was quitting as well. The last week of my notice, I was thinking, “Do I really want to just leave?”. So I talked to 2 of the managers and told them that I would like to stay on, at least 1 day a week, and occasionally pick up shifts, they both agreed. I tried picking up a serving shift for November 9th, at night, it was denied. I was confused about it, but whatever.

My daughter still works there and worked on the 9th. and I told her that I would pick her up when I got off work. I go in to get her about 6:20 pm. They are on a wait, so I walk over to where my daughter is seated. Now, there are 2 managers on duty. I was informed by one of the managers that James, our GM would like to speak to me. So I go in the office, and he says, “Let me grab Char real quick too”. I was a little confused on why you would want to talk to me right now, with both managers in the office, with the door closed, when your restaurant is on a wait and the kitchen getting slammed, on a Saturday night, but that’s what Applebee’s managers do.

So, I’m in the office with both managers, and James proceeded to tell me that he clocked me in for this talk, and that he had to get permission to allow me to continue to work at Applebee’s, and that that request was denied! WTF?

I told him then this conversation is over and walked out.

Why? Why would a company that I devoted everything to, tell me that I was not allowed to stay on as an employee? Why does this company continue to allow people not show up to work, with not calling in, and still have their job? Why does this company allow multiple call-offs, and they still have their job? Why does a company have standards and rules for nobody to follow them?

There are so many things going through my head, I mean, a KM that does whatever she wants, lies through her teeth, does shit wrong, and she just gets transferred. A “green” manager, just our of MIT, gets a KM position. A manager, who’s been with the company 15 years, gets passed over constantly and shit on.

Applebee’s, as a whole, is probably a great company. But, within the FRG, it is not. They bitch about not having staffing, about needing managers in the company, yet they pay people off the street way more then they do internal employees. Employees that do advance within the company, get the shittiest stores and then are expected to turn it into gold.

The company has “Gold Standards”, a little card that you can carry around with you and see what the company is all about, well that card isn’t even worth the stock it’s printed on, because no store within Flynn observes it, let alone follow it.

Money is not more important then your guests, guests are not more important then your employees.

A simple sentence that speaks louder than anything. I firmly believe that you take care of your employees, and in return, your employees will take care of you.

Couple of final things. Labor Day weekend, the Massillon Applebee’s had their inspection from the Health Dept, on Saturday, August 31st, 2019. They passed with a score of 86, which isn’t as good as it should’ve been. I don’t know who the inspector was, but they should be fired, as well as the Kitchen Manager at that time. She continued to say that it “smelled” around our flat top grill, yet failed to check everything, and pretty much brushed off the smell as our low boy containing shrimp.

The video and pictures below will show that was not the case. I was told that these were cleaned just a week prior, but then again, it was also from our compulsive lying KM.

You be the judge, and remember, this lady is still working for the company. I wouldn’t eat at this restaurant, unless I cooked my food myself, and even then I’d be a little worried. Best to not eat at Applebee’s all together.
