Fun times and bad times

After 13 days of being opened, our store is doing well, business wise. Now that’s not to say that everything is doing well. I have mixed feelings about everything going on. I do miss Applebee’s, but I think the only reason I miss it is because I was comfortable there, no new challenges. This place is SOOO much different than anyplace I’ve ever worked, but I love it!

There are always going to be issues with staff, especially FOH, specifically servers. Drama seems to follow us around everywhere. I guess I feel, that at my age, I’m trying to make this a career, yet there are others that are just here for a good time, make a little money, and that’s it. They don’t care about the little things, just make their money and go home. What that does is screw over your co-workers, not that they care.

I’m seeing more and more lately here that there are a handful of servers here to will not do anything other than wait on their tables, that’s not how this works. If you’ve ever been a server, you know that there are a lot of “tiny” little jobs that you must do during your shift. Fill ice, stock glassware, roll silverware, wipe your tables, sweep your floor. I know that there are times that you do not have time to do these things, that’s why we have Service Support, they bust their ass to help you get your tables turned, yet you have the balls to bitch because your table isn’t cleaned off by them while you’re standing around talking about your plans after work? Fuck you man! Do it yourself. If you haven’t figured it out yet, our Service Support don’t care if you get sat, they’re still gonna make the same amount regardless if they bus your damn table. Try that little thing that helps, it’s called “pre-bussing” bitch.

Now, on to being cut. I think the biggest problem is that they put “out” times on our schedule. Why? We work in an industry that is unpredictable, we never know when we’re gonna slow down, we can base it off of trends and history, but we do not have that. We have 13 days history. Our schedule needs in times, NEVER out times. The only thing this does is create an atmosphere where some servers see is that they are out at 8, or 11, and that’s when they want to leave, no matter if we’re on a wait or not or if they have tables. When some of these servers are cut, they won’t do their side work, all they want to do is leave. I get it, I really do, I worked 31 hours in 2 days because of how busy we were, but I still did all my side work, and rolled more silverware then I was suppose to. Why? Because I don’t believe in fucking over my co-workers, and it’s the right thing to do. Stop being a whinny ass bitch and do the work that is suppose to be done.

For the most part, I absolutely love my co-workers, about 90% of them are truly here to have fun and do their job, their entire job!
